A broadway performance titled American Son 2019 was translated into a film that was screened on the paid streaming service Netflix. Kenny Leon as director of the film American Son worked on this film with the wrapping of ideas about racism, sexism and generational conflict.

American Son tells about Kendra (Kerry Washington) a black American who is in the Miami police station. Kendra was there to report the loss of his 18-year-old son, Jamal. Jamal had gone by car to West Point with his friends since the afternoon. Not, as usual, this time Jamal did not return and did not contact him.

An officer serving Kendra named Paul Larkin (Jeremy Jordan) raises a number of questions with a condescending impression, such as the question of whether Jamal has a tattoo, another nickname, or gold teeth. Paul said it was a standard protocol question, not racist action. Then Kendra’s ex-husband who is an FBI agent, Scott (Steven Pasquale) – white – appears.

Paul’s attitude to Scott was completely different from when dealing with Kendra. Paul did not know that Scott was Jamal’s father. When the three of them left, the question arose about the extent of the role of race, gender, and class in police procedures?
